Biography
Grace is the founder and Executive Director of Ocean-action Resource Center, an NGO dedicated to providing environmental education for young Filipinos and coastal communities of the Philippines. She has continued to work on coral reef conservation and has applied the management and conservation skills that she gained from her EDGE Fellowship into her existing work.
EDGE Project
Grace’s EDGE Fellowship aimed to improve the conservation status of EDGE coral species in the Pacific area of Southern Leyte, Philippines. Her project objectives were to:
- Assess the efficacy of existing conservation activities in the conservation of two EDGE coral species and other reef-associated species
- Design and implement a low-cost, simple, effective and measurable conservation, engagement and public awareness programme
- Use EDGE corals as flagship species for coral reef protection in the Philippines through their inclusion in environmental legislation, enforcement policies, and Marine Protected Area management
Achievements
- Received a prestigious Global Fellowship in Marine Conservation from Duke University
- Developed a Marine Protected Area (MPA) for Teachers module that was integrated into local schools
